Your body is as unique as a snowflake, which means that the food you love may be poison to another person. Opposing dietary ideas can both be true, so it’s wise to understand your uniqueness before committing to foods that everyone else enjoys. Below are several examples of how a food can be perfect for one person, and then harmful to another.

1. Green leafy vegetables (like kale, lettuce and green peas) are high in fiber and hydrate the body. If you want energy, eat greens! Several years ago, I met for an initial consultation with a man who was taking the drug Coumadin. Because of how the drug interacts with vitamin K, he was not able to consume many of the vegetables I encourage my clients to eat. Not all of us can enjoy a crisp salad on a summer day.

2. The addition of raw dairy products is helpful to strengthen teeth. Unfortunately, if you are sensitive to milk, the same dairy may lead to a sore throat, cough, or upset intestines. If you’re pregnant, caution must also be used with mass produced, unpasteurized dairy products, due to the risk of foodborne illness.

3. An intestinal cleanse may be a great option for someone with a healthy digestive tract, since cleansing brushes debris off the intestines, which then allows you to absorb more nutrients. The same type of cleanse may be dangerous for a person with bowel inflammation, colitis, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

There are even risks to eating some raw vegetables, so I recommend that you always seek support and extra education to make the best choices at your next meal.
