All day long, I have been preparing my environment for success.

Sometimes when I return from traveling, I jump back into work right away, without a lot of time for me in between. Instead, I spent the day rearranging my physical environment in various ways, and also creating an internal environment (the way I feel) that is based on leisure and pleasure.

The right kind of environment always seems to lead to more opportunities for fun, friendly interactions, and creating money. (And one of my favorite things is to constantly experiment with making money in ways that feel like bliss.)

Fruit Compote and Vanilla Nut Cream~ I spent the first part of the morning baking cinnamon apples, and then listened to a class on Shamanism that Rose Cole was leading ..because I believe in magical things, coincidences, communicating through the dream world, and energy healing.

~ I restocked my refrigerator with everything from pomegranates to cantaloupe, and artichokes to pizza ingredients.

~ I soaked up the heat of the fall sun while eating a delicious and filling afternoon meal.

~ OneRebublic’s new song, “Future Looks Good” was the song I listened to over and over again.

~ I composted all of the flowers in the house that were past their prime, and remade bouquets with the flowers that are still blooming.

~ I scrubbed the toilet (I actually really like scrubbing toilets)

~ We also have a heavy storm approaching Washington State, so it was fun to prepare for a “slumber party weekend” by filling bottles with extra water, buying groceries, gassing up the car, and washing and drying all of my favorite cozy clothes.

So you might be wondering: “Ava, how’s preparing an environment for success working for you so far?”

My answer: I feel calm and fully supported in all ways (financially, through delicious food, and through friendships and family). I received word of more money showing up in my life, and tomorrow, I start working with a new entrepreneurial client. I’m also about to dive into a few weeks of writing my book, A Woman’s Treasure, and am quite excited to be writing in the environment I’ve created.

Once, I was convinced that I needed to fly to Los Angeles to attend a conference that I knew would attract many ideal potential clients.

But….nothing seemed to be working out. The conference organizers didn’t need any more volunteers at the event in exchange for free entry, the money for my flight and hotel didn’t seem to be there, and I was frustrated at how things were unfolding.

Going to Los Angeles did not seem to be the “path of least resistance,” but yet I couldn’t shake the thought from my mind….until this helped me make my decision:

Selling $10,000+ contracts

For entrepreneurs who sell services for $30 – $100 an hour, and entrepreneurs who sell individual items that cost under $30

Many of us have been trained to sell services and products in this way, where our clients purchase one item or appointment at a time. That’s how I started out. When I was 11 years old, I crafted jewelry and sold it at summertime festivals. But….it took a lot of time to make the jewelry, set up the booth, and to then sell each individual piece. When I started working in the holistic health field in 2009, many of the people in my industry sold one-time appointments, with the hope (but no guarantee) that their client would return. I gave that a try too.

These days, I’m enamored with a different way of selling – a process where we likely only have to make ONE sale a month, and the income from that ONE sale lets us live a very comfortable life.

Letpiece of Paris cafe photo’s use the example of a cafe, which sells coffee, hot tea, and iced lemonade for the hot summer months. Every single cup of coffee sold is a mini sale, where the barista must engage with a customer, educate them about what’s for sale, and answer questions. Then, hopefully, the customer will react favorably, and purchase something, and then come back for more on another day. A purchase at most cafes ranges from about $3 to $30, depending on if you have guests visiting, or if you want to sip on a fancy blended drink for the afternoon.

But what if that barista or café owner could have just ONE conversation, with one person, that leads to $10,000+ worth of drinks being sold?!

It takes a lot less time to have that one conversation – much quicker than the thousands of mini sales conversations.

This kind of approach (where you focus on connecting to larger contracts) works for all kinds of industries – health and wellness, photography, designers, cleaning services, food providers, floral shops, and many others.

Now, of course there is a place for selling one-off items, like the photographer who sells one photo shoot, or a print at a local fair. Or the health practitioner who hosts a one-time workshop, where they meet several new potential patients who end up sticking around with them for years.

But still…..it’s very intriguing to look at how your business can create an offering for more than $10,000, and how you can sell it through one or two conversations.

It’s a mind shift. You’ll have to think a bit differently, and you also need to modify the structure that you use to deliver your products or services. If you’d like to learn more, I’m going to be teaching about this at my next Making Money Feels Like Bliss workshop for entrepreneurs.

**If you have friends who might find this post and the café example helpful, please share it with them!

IFullSizeRender (14) have a slightly sunburnt nose, after a whole day out on the boat. My boyfriend and I celebrated 9 years together with a trip up to Seattle on the water. We went past the houseboats and University of Washington campus, stopped for fish, fries, and a Caesar salad at Ivar’s (I was too hungry to take a photo), and then jetted across the water to waterfront Kirkland. This trip included so many of the things I love – exploring new areas, staring at waterfront homes, visiting new cafes, and riding roller coasters (that’s what it feels like to me every time we hit big waves).

I found myself being very pulled to the big homes with the immaculate lawns and waterfront views, especially those on the Eastern side of Seattle, and Mercer Island. It’s not that I want to own one (I keep my life very mobile, so that I can travel on short notice), but I felt a pull to be in the presence of these beautiful structures.

It made me think about many of the possible thoughts that could go through a person’s mind when they stare at a side of an Island where BILLIONS of dollars worth of houses sit on their foundations:

1. “I’ll never be able to afford to live in one of those homes, because it costs so much. I’m jealous of rich people. It’s unfair that they get to live in that home, and I don’t.”

Or….

2. “Each of those homes provides a lot of monetary opportunities. Infact, money streams through each house every day. The people who built these houses were paid, and so are the gardeners who sculpt the gorgeous lawns, the housekeepers and cleaners, and the people who manufacture the parts to maintain the house after it’s been constructed.

The people who live in these homes likely have plenty of money to hire entrepreneurs for services such as health and nutritional guidance, counseling, coaching, dance lessons, pet care, house sitting, and financial services. These hillsides of homes represent endless opportunities for entrepreneurs.”

Or….

3. (This is the thought that I have had most recently) “There is an aspect of this lifestyle, particularly the beauty of high-end homes, which I want more of in my life. This desire makes me think about how can I spend more time in homes like these. Also, how can I bring the qualities of these homes into my own living environment?

I think it’s time to start constructing a tea light garden in my back yard, and to invest in building my own oasis….”

Treasure:

A concentrated source of riches that is about to be uncovered.

“So in essence, you help people become flowers in their business, and then they attract clients like flowers attract bees.”

The Hindu Swami spoke from across the cafe table with a gentle curiosity about my work. He had just shared a beautiful metaphor for what I was doing with my clients, and I was hooked by this idea. Yes, that truly was the energy behind my work.

I had only just met this Swami in person. The days prior to this, I had roamed the monastery while dressed in colorful Indian saris, and had absorbed everything I could from chance meetings with monk after monk after monk. Breakfast at this open-air café was now our opportunity to get to know each other. Another young monk who was 2 years into his monastic path sat in his white flowing robe, and quietly listened to all that I was sharing about my life. The younger monk was my little brother, who I had held many times in his adorable baby years. He was the tie to a very new family connection that had brought me to the monastery. The seasoned Swami, with his long wavy beard, marigold colored robe, and grey hair tied in an offset topknot, now wished to get to know his new “little sister.”

At that point in my life, I was several years into my journey as an entrepreneurial woman. I was in my mid-twenties, had owned my own business for 5 years, and was extremely passionate about my work. I worked a lot, mostly because I had a business that was based on doing what made me most happy.

When the Swami asked about my work, I immediately began sharing about my services supporting entrepreneurs and innovative companies. I shared my love of marketing and engaging with potential customers, and how I treasured being a business owner, because it gave me the flexibility to passionately work until late into the night, or to take 2 weeks off to travel. Just as I had built a career that I adored, I also wanted my clients to build their businesses in a way that was pleasurable for them, like savoring a long meal in Europe. I wanted making money to feel like bliss.

At the time of our conversation, I was also in the process of breaking out of the thought patterns of poverty, which had held me in a certain stage of business for a while. That year, I had begun to feel the strength of my work, and was tasting a kind of success that I had previously thought was impossible. I was earning thousands more than I ever had, and was navigating the fragile balance between my leftover mindset of a poor girl, and the mindset of a wealthy woman. Around that time, I had started to spend my days absorbing the thoughts of some of the masterful teachers of wealth, so that I could learn how to exist like they did. I had a feeling that my visit to the monastery would let me uncover more beautiful forms of treasure.

The Swami listened to me describe how I assist my clients in creating beautiful businesses that easily pull opportunities and income to them. When he translated my description into the imagery of a gorgeous flower drawing bees to it, I began to consider the depth of the energetic principles that let a flower grow, and the energy that welcomes clients and money to our businesses.

Interestingly, I already had a long history working with plants by the time I visited my monk brothers. From age 16, I was deep in the dirt and the lush greenery of plants, having worked at a plant nursery, and in colorful dahlia fields. I had spent a year in the woods studying medicinal plants, and worked on landscaping projects during my summers between years in school. With that existing familiarity, my mind began panning over the parallels between businesses and blossoms. When nestled in the right conditions, a flower thrives and is able to exchange nourishment as bees are drawn to it. When an entrepreneur creates nourishing conditions around her own business, a company can grow and attract clients and money with the same kind of ease.

Tall Vashon Sunflowers

The Swami went on to share that the monastery itself worked in this way, where people were drawn to the beauty and bountiful energy of the grounds and the work of the Monks, just as bees were drawn to a flower. The monastery landscape even looks like a flower, with hills of foliage and fragrant blossoms that sink down to the very center of the property, where you’ll find a central circular pool that is fed by waterfalls.

While I personally understood flowers quite well, I realized that there was one component of the flower and bee relationship that I was untrained in, and that was the bee. Conveniently, it turned out that several of the monks used to tend to beehives, and they observed the habits of these little winged creatures. The Swami explained some of the patterns of bees, which are the partners of flowers. Scout bees, as he told me, are the bees who travel far outside of the safe realm of the hive to explore new territory, and to search for nourishment. They risk trying new things for the first time, just like our adventurous first few customers. Our job when mirroring a flower would be to grow a business in alignment with natural principles, to emanate beauty, and to attract our first customers who are similar to scout bees. If we then provide a nourishing service or product to those first customers, the message of our work spreads from there.

IMG_0282

The heavenly hour we spent at this café became one of those scribble-on-your-napkin moments in my life. I wrote notes about the energetic aspects of entrepreneurship, becoming comfortable with money, and trusting in natural patterns to grow my business. Upon leaving our seats at the cafe, I lovingly tucked this café napkin into my bag for safe-keeping. Whenever I re-read those notes, I feel calm, with an electrical excitement that runs through my core. It’s as though my body confirms over and over again that this process is true. Today I use this simple and elegant approach to draw in customers and money, and I pass these ideas along to my clients.

What I learned that day with the Swami, and what I’ve been experimenting with ever since then, is something that I’m very excited to now pass on to you.

A Message From Ava:

Ava behind pink lily smallRecently, I’ve been receiving a massive amount of requests from people who would like to pre-order the book that I’m writing
. As of January 2017, I have written 65,000 words, have mentors guiding me in the final steps, have chosen my editor, and am working on getting the book out into the world. For the past 2 years, I have also been trained in book marketing from the man behind the success of Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Rich Dad, Poor Dad. His publicity coaches are getting me ready for television and radio, and I’m very excited for what’s next.

For those of you who wish to support the book in this phase of creation, you can when you pre-order A Woman’s Treasure. When you pre-order, you will also have immediate access to an online training. In this training, I shared guidance from the book, and several of the things I wrote on that napkin after meeting with the Swami.

Pre-order the book (paperback) and receive immediate access to the recorded training

You can order One Book + Training for $35

Or choose to order a Supporter Package, which includes 10 Books + Access to the training for 10 people. If you order the Supporter Package, the 10 books will be mailed or hand-delivered to you in one shipment once they are published, and you can then gift them to friends, family or clients.

DSC_0004

This book is about how you can grow a business that is a concentrated source of nourishment for your clients and customers. Your business becomes so beautiful to them that they can’t take their eyes off it. And that’s when the money and opportunities stream to you.

The final release date of this book is not yet established, but I expect it to be published sometime in 2017.  Also, “A Woman’s Treasure: Grow A Business Where Making Money Feels Like Bliss” is the long-standing working title. The title may change with publication, but the essence of the book will remain the same. The exact price of the book itself has not yet been established, which is why pre-ordering it now includes both the training and the book. At a later time, the book by itself will be made available for pre-order as a standalone product, at its final cost.

Also, for those of you who want to go even deeper into the processes in my book, I have a private mentoring program for entrepreneurs called “Tapping The Bank of the Universe.” It’s all about your energetic connection to money, and also includes my practical business guidance so that you can welcome in more customers and income into your life. If you’d like more details about this program, please email me at Support@AvaWaits.com, and we can talk more.

Enjoy!

HAPPINESS

A few weeks ago, my laughter made someone uncomfortable. Specifically, someone didn’t like it that I laughed on stage while giving a professional presentation.

I took it to mean that they couldn’t handle the giddy happiness that I aim to bring into all aspects of my life – including my friendships, my business, my speaking and presentations, and the blissful walks that I take as often as possible.

What I’ve learned from this person’s discomfort is that anyone who is upset by another person’s happiness is likely unhappy in their own lives.

Have I always been happy?

No. There was a period in life where I would often stay up until 2am crying hard, and would go to work the next day with puffy eyes. I always wondered if my co-workers could tell, or if my make-up hid it well enough.

When I realized that I had a choice in my happiness and my sadness, I started to weed out the things that were causing those deep and difficult tears.

The happiness I create now in my life is present because I’ve taken years and years and years to sift through many of the opportunities out there, and to choose the ones that contribute to my joy. I’ve tried many variations of a career, and have settled on a business that fits my lifestyle, and lets me make money in ways that feel like bliss. The food I eat is mostly clean and organic, which gives me the wonderful flexibility to enjoy a root beer every now and then (I LOVE root beer), or to eat gluten-free pizza for breakfast (I put a TON of veggies on it).

Whenever I cry now, it’s because I’m touched by something, and the release of emotions feels incredible.

I’m happy to be a human who can feel things. I love watching other people fall over from laughter, and I love hearing stories about people who have left crummy job situations to go do something much more fun (whether it’s scooping ice cream, or starting their own business.)

And if you see me speak at an event you attend, or in a company you work in, it’s very likely that I will laugh during my presentations. I laugh because I think that work should be just as happy as the rest of life.

Last week, on a one-day road trip, we stopped in a French bakery for treats to take with us. As a slice of carrot cake was wrapped up for the journey, the woman behind the counter started talking about her favorite cafe near where we were headed. She encouraged us to have lunch there.

On our drive through the mountains, we looked up the restaurant online, click on the “Menu” button, and…. did not find a menu. Instead, they had a note saying that they use seasonal produce and that the menu constantly changes.

While I fully appreciate the use of fresh ingredients, the marketer in me thought:
Menu photo“If I owned this restaurant, and had a rotating menu, I would still want to have something up on the ‘Menu’ page of my website, to give people an idea of what they could purchase. I’d likely take some gorgeous photos of past lunch and dinner options, and have a description of each meal accompanying several photos.

I’d say that ‘Our prices range from ____ to ____’, or ‘Meals start at ____” to give people a sense of what kind of bill to expect at the end of their meal.

Also, if a tab says “Menu,” but then doesn’t have a menu on it, customers may feel disappointed when a webpage doesn’t actually have what it says it has. This is why it’s so important to have an easy to understand display of what’s for sale.”

Later, upon going back to look at the website for this restaurant one more time, I find that there was in fact a menu!
But….it was hidden waaay at the bottom of the site, and was not easy to see on a smart phone.

From this experience, I was reminded of several things: Business owners should be bold about what they have for sale. Not obnoxious, but obvious about what they have to offer. It should be easy for the people who are looking at your business to find out how they can work with you, and what they can purchase from you.

I’ve recently been playing a very fun game, where I write on the calendar to “Uncover $____.” I fill that blank space in with whatever dollar amount I feel like searching for that day. Sometimes I have a specific need, such as a bill that is going to be due soon. Other times, I’m totally playing a game with myself, and I have some fun ideas about how I’ll spend the money that I’m planning to uncover.

In all of the books I’ve read, I’ve come to realize that the money and opportunities that we desire already surround us, and it’s simply up to us to “uncover” them. On the days where I choose to “uncover money,” I take every action knowing that the money is already waiting for me. I know that is has to be there.

I evaluate opportunities and many of the connections that already surround me. I pay attention to all of the potential money-creating ideas that pop into my mind, no matter where they come from. Sometimes I reach out to potential clients who I feel might need something that I have available, and other times, I trust that the opportunity will find me in a creative way.

The very first day I tried this out, I found the $500 I had decided to uncover that day!

How?

Where did that $500 come from?

Someone actually phoned me, and through our conversation, I was reminded about an offering that I had available, which several people wanted to purchase from me. I took action quickly, and the money streamed in within the next couple days. What I made available wasn’t exactly what I was planning to sell at the time, but people wanted to buy it. It was like answering their wishes, because they needed exactly what I had!

Let me know how much money YOU uncover when you give this a try!

Last year,  I found myself deep in conversations with entrepreneurs from all kinds of backgrounds (especially healers, aspiring speakers, authors, and creative professionals). I started to notice that many of them had similar needs and desires, and were looking for a fun and affordable way to explore these desires, while getting feedback and guidance for their business.

Since early 2016, I’ve been hosting workshops to address these needs, in an intimate setting, with fun conversation, drinks, and lots of laughter. Women from all around Washington State have traveled to these events, and some entrepreneurs come in from other states. Recently, I’ve received plenty of requests to make this workshop available for guests from around the world, so I’m excited to announce that this event will be available via teleconference line/online!

The entrepreneurs who participated have had some incredible things happen in their businesses following the workshops.

I had an amazing and inspiring time at Ava’s workshop. It was wonderful to meet and share knowledge with incredibly empowering women whom I will continue to share encouraging relationships with.
Shortly after the workshop I received a call from a friend about requesting me to be the architect on record for a $350,000 restaurant remodel job, which is easily going to be $10,000 job for me over the next year or so!!!!  This is exactly one of the topics we discussed in Ava’s workshop and I know the energy generated from the workshop attracted this opportunity.  It has been incredibly rewarding working with Ava and I absolutely love her perspective on life and business.”

Attending Ava’s workshop was a delightful breath of fresh air. The topics covered were much needed and very valuable. I love how Ava is able to breach very masculine aspects of business in a very feminine way. I loved how the event was very informal and there was a lot of discussion and brainstorming. Every woman had an opportunity to speak and get her specific questions and concerns addressed.
Ava is such a gifted leader and speaker and was able to guide the experience in a beautiful effortless way so that each of us were able receive the most out of the experience. I feel like the relationships and knowledge that I gleaned from the workshop definitely exceeded the price of the investment to attend.
Thank you Ava!”
